The high altitude Páramo landscape is viewed above Chugchilan, in the Ecuadorian Andes, South America. This can be day hiked from the Black Sheep Inn, Chugchilan, Ecuador, located along the Lago Quilotoa driving loop. The Páramo is a high elevation ecosystem in tropical South America (neotropical) between the upper forest line (about 3800 m altitude) and the permanent snow line (about 5000 m). The ecosystem contains mostly glacier formed valleys and plains with a large variety of lakes, peat bogs and wet grasslands intermingled with shrublands and forest patches.
