The painted locust(schistocerca melanocera, in the family of Acrididae, or short-horned grasshoppers) is the brightest and most conspicuous galapagos insect. This black, red, green and yellow painted locust was photographed at Puerto Egas accessible via a wet landing on Santiago (or San Salvador, or James) Island, in the Galápagos archipelago, a province of Ecuador. Grasshoppers are popular prey for lava lizards.
